Honk Honk Meaning Explained

As per the sources, Canadian Liberal MP Ya’ara Saks claimed that ‘the Honk Honk’ catchphrase was used by Freedom Convoy protesters over the past few weeks which is a secret code for ‘Heil Hitler’. It has become an unofficial slogan in support of the truckers who played their horns continuously in protest of pandemic mandates in the course of demonstrations that paralyzed the capital city of Ottawa for almost a month.

In the course of Monday’s debate on the Emergencies Act called by the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, Ya’ara Saks defended the Act to remove protesters from the Parliament Hill area on Sunday because she launched into what she believed was the meaning of the Honk Honk slogan, a secret to support the Hitler. In the initial days of the protests in January, a confederate flag and a swastika flag were seen in the crowd, leading Trudeau to call all protesters swastika wavers in a speech addressing the manifestation.

Translation and Remote Work Platform Viva Translate Closes USD 4m Seed Round - Slator - Translation

Translation and Remote Work Platform Viva Translate Closes USD 4m Seed Round

Viva Translate was co-founded in June 2020 by CEO Belinda Mo and COO Tony Hua, both Stanford University graduates and the children of immigrants. The company’s platform offers real-time translation of email and other interactive written correspondence via machine translation (MT) specifically for Spanish-speaking workers based in Latin America who wish to work for US employers.

Investors in the seed round, led by General Catalyst, include Chris Manning and Richard Socher from AIX Ventures, Fellows Fund, Hyphen Capital, and First Check Ventures, as well as executives from Microsoft, Meta, Rappi, and PayClip.

On what attracted General Catalyst to Viva Translate, the VC firm said the founders’ vision “aligns well to our thinking around tailored productivity: ultimately, abstracting away cultural blockers creates the opportunity for freelancers to be more strategic in their work.”

After Viva Translate’s January 2021 pre-seed round, funded by Blue Ridge Foundation, the platform’s waitlist rose to 15,000 users in just one week. CEO Mo told Slator, “Tony and I realized how big of a need language translation for cross-border work was, and that’s how we knew this was the right time to raise.” She declined to comment on the company’s valuation.

Millions of Unfilled Jobs

The funding announcement coincides with headlines about the ongoing “Great Resignation” of US employees across industries leaving their jobs for a variety of reasons. The result, more than 10 million job openings are yet to be filled.

In this market, Mo and Hua saw the opportunity. Skilled independent contractors living in Latin America can earn good wages relative to their lower cost-of-living locations, while US employers save on expenses.

“The job market is now global and, with technology, language doesn’t have to be a barrier for filling positions with qualified employees,” Mo said. “It makes a huge amount of sense for US employers to open themselves up to this large, untapped talent pool.”

Viva Translate estimated that there are some 160 million Spanish-speaking professionals across Latin America who could benefit from the platform.

The company is currently in beta testing with a few hundred users, professionals from IT/engineering, design, administrative, data entry, and customer service, and has over 100,000 workers on its waitlist.

How It Works

Individual professionals subscribe for access to Viva Translate’s industry-specific translation models and customized support for finding and maintaining jobs with foreign employers, including recommendations for remote job openings that non-fluent English speakers can apply for, tailored to each user’s skill set and résumé.

As the user types, Viva Translate’s product automatically translates the text from Spanish into English. Behind the scenes, the MT is trained specifically on content relevant to professional environments and freelancer-client communications. The tool also detects grammatical issues and suggests industry-specific improvements that users can incorporate into their writing.

The company believes its offering of specialized MT to individual users is what makes it stand out.

“Competitors in the machine translation space primarily operate either in free consumer space (e.g., Microsoft Translate) or paid enterprise space (e.g., Lionbridge),” Mo explained. “Domain-specific translations are only available to big enterprises/governments, whereas those accessible to consumers are not domain-specific.”

Wanted: English-Spanish translators

Viva Translate’s current team includes about 10 full-time employees — all children of immigrants — distributed across San Francisco, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and Brazil. With the funds raised in the seed round, the company plans to build out the team, specifically adding its first engineering and translator hires.

“We’re looking for English-Spanish translators and linguists who are passionate about technology,” Mo said. “For now, we are focused on English-Spanish translation so that we can provide the best possible product for this language pair first.”

Over the next few years, the company plans to expand to cover other languages, including Chinese, Hindi, Brazilian Portuguese, and Tagalog. The guiding strategy is to focus on languages spoken in other high-tech remote work centers of the world.

3 Benefits Of Choosing A Professional Translation Agency For Your Growing Business - State-Journal.com - Translation

When businesses aim for global expansion, they have to take certain measures as well to expand their business without any barriers across the globe. One such barrier is the communication gap between the company and the clients from other regions speaking different languages than you. Not only they won’t be able to understand a word on your website but also the information written on your products. And it’s a general observation that you can’t buy a thing you don’t understand.

In this way, your products and services won’t be able to reach people like they should. In addition, doing business with companies of other regions means you should be able to translate your documents according to their ease of understanding and without losing the real essence of the information. That is only possible if you take professional service in this regard and hire a translation agency. You need to ask yourself where I can find a reliable translation agency near me? And then go for what suits your needs best. Here are a few benefits of hiring a professional translation agency for your business.

1. Helps Your Business Grow

Hiring a professional translation agency for your business can benefit you in several ways. Your advertising will get better and more effective. In addition, having an online presence with an option of translation into multiple languages will help your business grow at a fast pace.

Moreover, clients will be more responsive as they will be able to understand what you are conveying. It will look like your business knows its goal and how to achieve them through the right tools.

2. No Communication Barrier

When you are dealing with international companies in businesses you have to make sure that no communication gap can become a barrier in pulling off deals. Hiring a professional translation agency can help you with the translation of important information without losing its meaning. They are professionals and are experienced to deal with such situations.

In addition, improved communication leads to better decisions that help your business grow across the globe. The translation agency will make sure that everyone is on the same page in the company.

3. Helps You Go After Untapped Market

If your business is restricted to one language only, you’ll be unable to go after untapped markets because of the communication barrier. For instance, you go to a shopping center to buy a good face wash. You find different brands there but only understand the one in which the written information is either in English or translated into English. Naturally, you’ll buy from the brands that you understand.

The other brands being in Chinese, German, Spanish develops a language barrier for you and instantly drops from your list. Similarly, you can have no competitive advantage if you do not put in an effort and hire a translation agency that can help you translate your products and business materials into multiple languages to help your business go after the untapped market.

Language translation services expand to 22 Ascension St. Vincent facilities - WISHTV.com - Translation

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Medical interpreter support is expanding across Indiana as part of Ascension St. Vincent-Indianapolis hospital’s Bridging the Gap medical translation services.

Medical interpreting support is free, and can be requested through physicians’ offices. While Ascension St. Vincent Hospital-Indianapolis is the home base, the program is expanding to the 22 sites around the state.

Advocates say, as Indiana’s diversity grows, keeping the immigrant communities healthy is important.

Hospital representatives say when there are language barriers some people won’t go to the doctor until it’s an emergency and, considering how much immigrant communities add to the culture of the state, continued work is needed to improve equity in health care.

Ascensions St. Vincent is operating on principles of ABIDE: appreciation, belongingness, inclusivity, diversity and equity. It’s a key component of what medical interpreters learn.

“It’s very hard they sometimes don’t even speak up until they end up in the emergency room because they don’t speak the language,” said Adriana Contreras, the director for language and translation services.

She’s an interpreter and facilitates the Bridging the Gap course. It’s a 40-hour class that teaches participants how to be patients’ voices, break cultural barriers, advocate, and clarify. “So when somebody is saying ‘yes’ and the stare is blank, as an interpreter, a good interpreter, you’re going to clarify it. You’re going to pause and tell the provider, ‘I think they’re not getting it. Can I go back and ask and reiterate?'”

Spanish is the most-frequent language needing interpreters, but support covers a broad spectrum of languages.

Interpreter Jarret Roloff said, “I just think about how much Latin Americans have contributed to our culture, and to our society, just being so valuable.”

Roloff was a high school Spanish teacher before becoming a medical interpreter five years ago. Roloff said being able to communicate in two or more languages doesn’t necessarily mean people have the skills to adequately interpret medical topics.

“I want to be the most accurate and precise, so I’ll end up using the dictionary and continue with the interpretation and then later I’ll add it to a study list.”

Roloff said he’s maintained a passion for this work largely due to the people he gets to help.

German Dictionary Changes Definition of 'Jew' After Jewish Community Complaints - Jewish Exponent - Dictionary

By Shira Hanau

A German dictionary entry for the word “Jew” has been changed after members of the country’s Jewish community complained that the definition was problematic.

The definition offered by the Duden dictionary, once of the most authoritative German dictionaries, had included a note that the term is sometimes used as a derogatory slur in addition to being the simplest way of referring to Jews. But German Jews pushed back against the inclusion of the use of the word “Jew” as a slur, saying the term is the correct one and should be used without qualification.

“Even if ‘Jew’ is used pejoratively in schoolyards or only hesitantly by some people, and the Duden editors are certainly well-meaning in pointing out this context, everything should be done to avoid solidifying the term as discriminatory,” Joseph Schuster, the head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, told the Associated Press.

The entry was updated Monday and included the Central Council of Jews in Germany’s approval of the use of the term.

The word “Jew” has long been considered by some, especially non-Jews, to be derogatory, leading some to instead prefer the adjective “Jewish” to the more succinct or blunt noun, “Jew.” Jewish institutions in previous eras also adopted alternatives to the word “Jew” in their names, preferring terms like “Hebrew” and “Israelite.”

Sarah Bunin Benor, a professor at Hebrew Union College who writes about Jews and language, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in 2020 that people have historically avoided using the word “Jew” to avoid sounding antisemitic, even though the word is not inherently derogatory.

“Many people assume that it’s a slur because they know that Jews are historically a stigmatized group, so they’re concerned about using it because they don’t want to sound offensive,” she said.
