Under the Franklin Rotary Club of Franklin Breakfast education committee leadership of Dick Tennent and the committed Executive Committee of the Franklin Rotary Club of Franklin Breakfast, a milestone has been achieved. Over the course of the 2023 and 2024 school years, the club has successfully delivered 1,455 dictionaries to 15 public elementary schools within the Franklin Special School District and Williamson County Schools.
‘This significant contribution underscores the Rotary Club's unwavering dedication to enhancing literacy and education in our community,” a Breakfast Rotary spokesperson said through a press release. “Each dictionary represents a tool for learning, a gateway to knowledge, and a step towards a brighter future for our young students.”
In addition to delivering the dictionaries, dedicated Rotarians visited each classroom to demonstrate and explain how to use a dictionary effectively. These sessions not only equipped students with practical skills but also highlighted the importance of literacy as a foundation for lifelong learning.
The dictionaries were distributed to the following schools:
- Hillsboro (WCS): 38 dictionaries
- Walnut Grove (WCS): 114 dictionaries
- Poplar Grove (FSSD): 59 dictionaries
- Liberty (FSSD): 92 dictionaries
- Oak View (WCS): 78 dictionaries
- Moore (FSSD): 100 dictionaries
- Franklin (FSSD): 55 dictionaries
- Johnson (FSSD): 65 dictionaries
- Hunter’s Bend (WCS): 73 dictionaries
- Winstead (WCS): 120 dictionaries
- Clovercroft (WCS): 125 dictionaries
- Trinity (WCS): 102 dictionaries
- Pearre Creek (WCS): 105 dictionaries
- Creekside (WCS): 123 dictionaries
- Arrington (WCS): 85 dictionaries
This project exemplifies the Rotary Club's motto, "Service above Self," and showcases the collective effort of Rotarians who are passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young learners. The initiative not only provides essential resources but also inspires students to cultivate a love for learning and literacy.
Furthermore, Rotarians took this opportunity to educate students about the Rotary Club’s global efforts, particularly the Rotary's significant contributions toward the eradication of polio. This dual-purpose engagement helped students understand the broader impact of Rotary's work beyond their own classrooms.
Tennent expressed his gratitude, stating, "We are incredibly proud of the impact this project has made. Education is the cornerstone of a thriving community, and it is our honor to support the students and schools in Franklin and Williamson County. Our sincere thanks go out to all the Rotarians and volunteers who made this possible."
The Franklin Rotary Club of Franklin Breakfast remains committed to fostering educational growth and community development. As it looks forward to future projects, more community members are invited to join us in the club’s mission to create positive, lasting change.
